Trailing begonias are stunning in hanging baskets. You can buy the plants online Gardening direct, you can buy them in my size, which are ready to go out or medium-size. They are delivered during April, and they will flower all summer and through to the autumn. With a mixture of fiery colours from orange to yellow and lots and lots of shades in between your fight that these flowers are very very pretty. They love to flower when they are in full sun so your best keeping them to the sunny side of your home. 24 plants is enough for quite a few baskets, although if only a pound or so more you can get a lot more plants, and you could then pass this on to your neighbours and ensure that your whole street looks fantastic.

It’s time to buy your summer pansies. These bright and cheerful flowers can be in flower all summer long. There are many different varieties of pansy available and they can be used in garden beds, borders and any containers you need filling with colour. They are suitable for planting in any soil type. They are happy in partial shade or full sun. They flower from June until October. Reaching the heights of up to 40 cm and spreading out the same distance, they are an economical way of bringing colour into your garden. They need like clipping to remove the dead flowers when they get straggly but that’s about it. Easy bright cheerful colour and great value.

When the snow has all melted you’ve probably noticed that your garden is looking a little untidy. The snow always makes your garden look neat and smooth but unfortunately the weight of snow can damage plants and there will be some pruning to do soon.
Many plants need pruning in the spring including autumn fruiting raspberries as do Buddleia, Dianthus and Campanula. There will be many plants in your own garden that will benefit from a spring pruning. But what to do with the trimmings? You can piles them up in the compost as is, but they take longer to break down. The best solution is to shred them and this is where you’ll find having a shredder incredibly useful. They can quickly turn a huge pile of sticks into a much more manageable pile of material ready to compost.
Shredded material breaks down much quicker and is much sooner back on the garden returning nutrients and acting as a mulch.

There are a variety of shredders out there and this Flymo one has everything you need. It’s got a powerful motor and a 62 litre capacity collection container. It’s a good investment that you will use year after year for both spring and autumn pruning.

If you’re after something cheaper, Gardening Direct also do a Handy Impact Shredder which is about half the price of the bigger flymo shredder. It also takes up to 40mm branches. It has a slightly less powerful motor at 2400w. This should still manage your shreddings though. It doesn’t fold down, nor does it have wheels like the more expensive shredder, but if you’re looking to save money then it’s a great option too. Highly commended in RHS trials this tall variety will produce an abundance of cherry sized tomatoes with a distinctively tangy flavour. The long season and high yield means you can enjoy the tomatoes all summer long. Suitable for outdoor growing. Sow: February to April, crops from July to October.

Outstanding courgette variety with mosaic virus resistance. Very early cropping from July onwards, twice the yield of some other early varieties and it carries on producing for the whole season with attractive dark fruits. (approx 10 seeds)
