Greenfingers Garden – Mixed Perennial Plants x 12 £24.99
Buy buying these healthy mixed perennial plants means we will donate 5.00 to The Greenfingers Garden at Little Havens Hospice. The twelve lucky dip plants you receive will have been selected from our wide range of perennial plants and will be individually labelled. Varieties may vary from those pictured. The Greenfingers Garden at Little Havens Hospice – In June this year, Greenfingers charity are going to transform a large vacant plot of land into a fun, interactive grow-your-own garden which will be used by families who are staying at the hospice for respite, medical treatment or end of life care. The whole family will be able to get their hands dirty planting seeds at the speically adapted raised beds and enjoy the simple pleasures of gardening together. Everyone will be able to use the garden, it will be totally accessable for wheelchairs and even for beds if the children cannot leave their beds. How you can help? It’s very simple! Time is running out, as this garden is being started this June and it will be so disappointing not having enough funds to finish this magical garden in time for the longest summer days, when children and their families can play, relax, get rest and respite! We will provide all the plants for the raised beds, but we still need you to help raise 5,000 for the bespoke raised wooden beds to grow fruit and veg. It’s very simple – we have created 3 fantastic wildlife-attracting collections of 3 to 12 potted perennial plants that provide food and shelter – and we all love spending time in our gardens and enjoying the nature it brings to them! For every pack sold, we’ll make a donation (as detailed) to the Greenfingers garden. Or, if perennials aren’t your thing, why not just make a donation – 1.00, 5.00, 10.00 whatever you can spare – every little helps!

Rosa ‘Buff Beauty’ (rose Buff Beauty (hybrid musk)) was £17.99 now £15.99
Position: full sun Soil: fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: July to September Flower colour: apricot-yellow to ivory Other features: excellent cut-flowers Hardiness: fully hardy Large trusses of fully double, lightly fragrant, apricot-yellow to ivory flowers from July to September and dark green leaves. This sturdy, repeat-flowering shrub rose is perfect for a sunny mixed or shrub border. To fully appreciate the gorgeous, tea rose-scent chose a site close to an entrance or path with fertile, moist, well-drained soil. All our roses are grown in an open field and then dug up when the weather conditions are right in October or November. Some suppliers send out their roses as ‘bare root’ plants (ie without pots or compost), but we pot ours up as it helps to keep the roots hydrated and in good condition. As they are dormant throughout the winter, they will not produce any new roots until spring, so don’t be surprised if the compost falls away from the roots when you take them out of their pots. The roses can be kept in their pots throughout the winter provided they are kept well fed and watered, however ideally they should planted out as soon as possible. They will already have been cut back so no further pruning will be required, apart from snipping off any tips that have died back. Routine pruning can begin in late winter the year after planting. Garden care: If planting in winter, choose a frost-free spell when the soil is not frozen. Roses are quite deep-rooted plants so dig a deep hole roughly twice as wide as the plants roots and mix in a generous amount of composted organic matter. A top-dressing of a general purpose fertiliser can be worked into the surrounding soil and we also recommend using Rose Rootgrow at this stage to encourage better root development. This is particularly important when planting into a bed where roses have previously been grown as Rose Rootgrow is said to combat rose sickness (aka. replant disease). Remove the plants from their pots and gently spread out the roots before placing them in the centre of the hole. Try to ensure that the ‘bud union’ (the point where the cultivated rose has been grafted onto the rootstock, and from where the shoots emerge) is at soil level. You can judge this quite easily by laying something flat, like a spade handle or bamboo cane, across the top of the hole. When they are

Geranium sanguineum ‘Album’ (bloody cranesbill) £7.99
Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: fertile, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average to fast growing Flowering period: May to June Hardiness: fully hardy This pretty cranesbill is smothered with pure white, cup shaped flowers from May though to June. Thriving in full sun or partial shade, it quickly forms loose hummocks of deeply cut, dark green leaves, which is valuable for suppressing weeds. Try it as part of a cottage garden scheme or towards the front of a mixed border. Garden care: In midsummer rejuvenate plants that are beginning to look jaded, by removing old flowered stems and leaves. Lift and divide large colonies in spring.
