Position: full sun or partial shadeSoil: fertile, well-drained, neutral soilRate of growth: averageFlowering period: July to OctoberFlower colour: very pale pinkOther features: popular in Japanese style gardensHardiness: fully hardy This wonderful variety has enormous, single flowers, which grow up to 18cm across. The colour is the palest shade of pink with rosy-lavender margins and stamens. The flowers have a beautiful satin sheen to them, and the under-side is a very deep rosy-lavender with maroon veins. The leaves are dark green and glossy and some may remain on the plant during milder winters. A great Clematis for a pot, provided they do not become too hot or dry out.Garden care: In early spring cut back the previous year’s stems to a pair of strong buds about 15-20cm (6-8in) above ground-level and apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown.
ornamental onion
ornamental onion £4.99
Position: full sunSoil: fertile, well-drained soilRate of growth: average to fastFlowering period: May to JuneHardiness: fully hardyA new addition to our range of Alliums, that immediately shot to the top of our wish-lists. In early to mid summer, each upright stem is crowned with a rounded cluster of small flowers, which seem to hover like large, brilliantly coloured jewels above the foliage. Each flower is made up of deep pink to purple petals surrounding a blueberry-purple centre, which creates a vibrant and exciting contrast of colours. Their drumstick shape is great for adding diversity to the border, while their sturdy stems makes them ideal for cutting. If left in the border after the flowers have faded though, the subsequent seed heads will add months of structural interest.Garden care: Plant bulbs 15cm deep and 15cm apart to enjoy the full effect of the flowers. Avoid excessive mositure from late summer when they become dormant. Over-large clumps can be lifted and divided in autumn or spring.
