Boctanical Tulip Collection
Boctanical Tulip Collection £17.60
‘Botanical Tulips’ is the term generally used to describe selections and hybrids of the more important species and it’s the one we like to use too for fosteriana greigii kaufmanniana and praestans Tulips. fosteriana Tulips are perhaps the closest to standard tulips but flowers are more elongated; greigii Tulips are dwarf growing and have attractive striped leaves; kaufmanniana Tulips are also dwarf and have water-lily like flowers; and praestans Tulips are multi-headed. Collection consists of: Buddy Stresa Unicom
Tulip Lac Van Rijn
Tulip Lac Van Rijn £8.95
Whilst most Tulipa species don’t really do that well in a domestic garden where it is not easy to replicate the conditions they thrive on in the wild there are a few true species and some cultivated forms and hybrids that given the right growing conditions – well-drained soil in full sun – can be very rewarding subjects for the amateur to grow. An historic variety dating back to the height of ‘Tulipmania’ in 1620 and kept in cultivation by Hortus Bulborum in Limmen Holland. Very rare and very special. Flowers April.
Eremurus robustus
Eremurus robustus £8.95
A really fantastic sight in the garden the gigantic tall spikes bearing up to 800 very pale-pink flowers. A true species that has to be seen to be believed. When planting the central bud should just be above the soil level cover with sand or grit to aid winter drainage and shelter from spring frost.
Tulip marjolettii
Tulip marjolettii £8.95
Whilst most Tulipa species don’t really do that well in a domestic garden where it is not easy to replicate the conditions they thrive on in the wild there are a few true species and some cultivated forms and hybrids that given the right growing conditions – well-drained soil in full sun – can be very rewarding subjects for the amateur to grow. A good species for naturalising and for patio pots and containers. Flowers become more red as they mature. Flowers April/May.
