Sensitive Plant Seed £1.69
Who said plants can’t move? This one does. When touched the leaves fold up and the stems droop. Why? So ‘would-be munchers which touch it think it’s half dead and unappetising. This plant is one of the few that has a very basic nervous system. A must for kids, it grows like lawns in the tropics – great fun to sit on! Culture: Sow the seeds into a tray of moist, firm, quality compost, pressing them gently into the surface. Place in a polythene bag to conserve moisture. Place in a warm dark place at around 18-20°C (65-68°F) until germination occurs. At the first sign of germination (21-35 days), remove the bag and maintain a temperature of 15°C (60°F). Grow on in good light keeping the compost moist. Transplant the seedlings, when large enough to handle, into 9cm (3½”)pots of compost and grow on in good light, watering as required. As the plants grow pot up into a final size of 10cm (4″) and apply a weekly liquid feed through the summer. Grow in good light but avoid direct sunlight. Average Growing Height: 21-30CM.
