Orchid Cypripedium calceolus

Orchid Cypripedium calceolus £64.99
This beautiful orchid was formerly a reasonably widespread plant across northern England, particularly the limestone area of the Yorkshire Dales. But by the late 20th century it had declined to just a single plant! Perhaps the most exquisite of the Lady’s Slipper Orchids, its boasts downy leaves, and flower stems topped by 1-3 blooms, whose sepals and petals are maroon (rarely green) and often spirally twisted. The sac of the slipper-like lip is yellow, and spotted inside with red. Enchanting! Flowers in June. Height 45cm. Supplied in a 1 litre pot.Hardy Slipper Orchids – The Cypripedium family are undoubtedly the most sumptuous of all the orchids that will thrive in our British climate. Their cultivation goes back over 2,500 years to China, but Victorian plant collectors’ “orchid fever” brought them almost to extinction in the wild. Over the last few years, however, their cultivation in nurseries has made great progress, and we are proud to bring you four amazing species to delight in growing in your own garden! The roots we supply are already six seasons old, so they’ll flower in their first summer! They will thrive in a moist but well-drained soil, in full or dappled shade. And, as the plants become established, the rhizomes will spread to form spectacular clumps (if you can’t wait then plant them in groups of three or more). But be warned – the beauty of hardy orchids surpasses many of their tropical cousins, and growing them can be addictive! Culture: Full growing instructions included. Average Growing Height: 41-50CM. 1 Potted Plant. . . . .

Nepenthes Miranda

Nepenthes Miranda £44.99
If you grow lots of house plants you’ll find that you can get bored with the more common ones. So why not try something a little out of the ordinary? This unusual and extremely fascinating Asian plant is a true carnivore, so you won’t be the only one that finds it irresistibly alluring! Nepenthes catches bugs in its pitchers and dissolves them much as we dissolve food in our stomachs! It’s a great alternative to traditional fly traps, and the pitchers on this plant look large enough to catch some very large bugs! In the wild, these plants grow on and under trees, its pitchers hanging below the foliage. It makes a novel houseplant and will thrive in a bright position, out of direct sunlight. Trailing.
