Don’t leave soil bare as wind and rain can erode the soil. Plant green manure and either dig in or leave the plants to break down! Fantastic ways of helping the soil.
Green Manure Alfalfa, Pack £4.85
Grow for a just a few months or a year or two. Deep rooting. Winter hardy. Fixes nitrogen. Sow April to July. Covers approximately 45 square metres.
Green Manure Phacelia, Pack £4.50
An annual to grow for two months in summer or will overwinter if sown in September. Sow April to September. Covers approximately 25 square metres.
Green Manure Tares, Pack £4.00
Vetches. Rapid growth with dense cover. Does best on heavy soils. Dig in after two to three months, or overwinter. Fixes nitrogen. Sow in March to May or July to September. Covers approximately 7 square metres.
Green Manure Mustard, Pack £4.00
Very fast growing. Dig in just before flowering. Sow March to September. Covers approximately 20 square metres.

Attractive plant with red stems and unusual shaped leaves. Small pink flowers loved by beneficial insects, such as hoverflies. Annual. Dig in after two to three months, any time up to and including flowering. Will tolerate poor soils. Frost sensitive. Sow April to August. Covers approximately 25 square metres.
