It has dark green, irregular, rounded-lobed leaves and clusters of egg-shaped acorns in autumn. A smaller variety than the common oak, it is well suited to medium-sized gardens and looks lovely in formal plantings. Garden care: Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost.
