The clay from this area ages to a lovely patina, as the salts slowly l each to the surface. It emerges in spring a fresh lime green, but soon turns a rich green shade. In autumn it changes again, this time turning brilliant orange-red before it falls. Garden care: Add a top-dressing of a well-balanced fertiliser around the base of a newly planted tree in late spring and keep well watered. No routine pruning is required, just remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches in late autumn or winter when they are fully dormant.
