Helleborus x hybridus 'Pink Lady' (lenten rose / hellebore)

Helleborus x hybridus ‘Pink Lady’ (lenten rose / hellebore) was £3.49 now £2.99
Position: partial shade Soil: heavy, neutral to alkaline soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: February to April Other features: all parts of the plant cause severe discomfort if ingested; the sap may cause skin irritation Hardiness: fully hardy (borderline) Perfectly suited to the woodland floor, where it will offer seasonal diversity when used in conjunction with hostas and ferns, the pendent or outward-facing flowers of this hybrid Lenten rose are a very pretty shade of pink. Garden care: Add lots of well-rotted leaf mould or organic matter to the planting hole. Cut the old leaves back down to the ground in January or February as this will show off the new emerging flowers to best effect. It will also help to get rid of foliar diseases such as Hellebore leaf spot. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the base of the plant in autumn and provide a top-dressing of general fertiliser each spring. Cut off the seed heads to prevent inferior seedlings colonising.

Ilex x meserveae Blue Angel ('Conang') (holly blue angel)

Ilex x meserveae Blue Angel (‘Conang’) (holly blue angel) was £7.99 now £7.49
Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moist, well-drained, moderately fertile, humus-rich soil Rate of growth: slow Hardiness: fully hardy This is a great evergreen shrub for adding year round structure and interest, but if there is a male holly nearby to cross pollinate the small, creamy white flowers in spring, it will also deliver a bright splash of seasonal colour with its glossy red berries, which appear in autumn. It is possibly more interesting than many of the other hollies as it has unusual colouring – the stems being a deep damson purple (nearly black), while the lustrous foliage is an attractive bluish green shade. It is ideal for hedging, or deterring unwanted visitors with its prickly leaves. Garden care: Keep well watered, particularly during warm weather and feed with a general purpose fertiliser such as Vitax Q4 from mid-spring to late summer.
