Sedum 'Lime Zinger' (Sunsparkler Series) (PBR) (stonecrop)

Sedum ‘Lime Zinger’ (Sunsparkler Series) (PBR) (stonecrop) £7.99
Position: full sun Soil: moderately fertile, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil Rate of growth: average to fast-growing Flowering period: August to September Hardiness: fully hardy If you are looking for an easy to grow groundcover that will look good for months on end, then look no further. Each spring the succulent foliage emerges a zesty green with a fine bright red edge. This forms a carpet, which in late summer, is topped with sprays of pink flowers that the bees love. This is a great (and easy to grow) plant that will flourish in a sunny spot. It also is going to work well in patio pots. Garden care: Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant. Once established, sedums can have a tendency to flop leaving an open and unsightly centre, especially in fertile soil. One technique to help prevent this is the ‘Chelsea chop’. During the last week of May (Chelsea Flower Show week), cut one in every three stems back to the ground. This will produce plants that are less lush and flower slightly later.

Erysimum 'Bowles's Mauve' (wallflower)

Erysimum ‘Bowles’s Mauve’ (wallflower) £4.99
Position: full sun Soil: poor to moderately-fertile, well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil Rate of growth: average to fast-growing Flowering period: February to July Hardiness: borderline hardy ( may need winter protection)) This long-flowering, bushy, vigorous wallflower produces long spires of deep mauve flowers from late winter to summer (and usually into autumn), above narrow, grey-green leaves. It is a short-lived plant, but it makes a vivid display for many months in a sunny border. Try it as part of a colour-themed scheme, or contrast it with vivid yellows. It also looks good in a rock garden or raised bed. Garden care: Requires little attention. Provide cloche protection where frosts are very severe or prolonged.
