Phyllostachys nigra (black bamboo)

Phyllostachys nigra (black bamboo) £34.99
Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil Rate of growth: fast growing Leaves: dark green Canes: polished ebony-black Hardiness: fully hardy A beautiful tall arching bamboo with polished ebony-black mature canes and dark green leaves. The slender, elegant, canes, which are dark green for the first two to three years, look perfect in a contemporary, minimalist garden. To prevent the plant from colonising adjacent plantings restrict the roots using a rigid, non-perishable barrier. Garden care: Plant in a large container or surround the roots with a non-perishable barrier that restricts the plant’s spread. Water regularly until established. Bamboos do not like competition, so are best planted en masse in a designated area of the garden.

Meconopsis baileyi (himalayan blue poppy)

Meconopsis baileyi (himalayan blue poppy) £7.99
Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: humus rich, moist, well drained, neutral to slightly acid soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: June to July Other features: toothed, hairy, bluish green leaves Hardiness: fully hardy From early to midsummer, branching bristly stems carry several shallow, bowl-shaped, flowers in shades of sky blue to pinkish-lavender well above the tufted foliage. Ideal for the edges of a woodland where there is reliable moisture in summer. These plants can be quite difficult to grow, so are probably better suited to the more experienced gardener. Garden care: Stake with bamboo canes or brushwood before the flowers appear. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of bark chippings, well-rotted leaf mould or composted pine needles around the base of the plant in spring.

Ant killer granules

Ant killer granules £5.49
These ant killer granules are particularly effective when applied as a soluble solution so that the active ingredient penetrates right into the nest and destroys the insects which remain inside. This method is particularly useful when pouring the mixture into gaps between patios, paths and walls. 10g of powder dissolved in 0.5 litres of water is recommended to treat one nest. This can also be used in it’s original powder form and is particularly useful when treating larger areas. Active ingredient content 1.74% w/w pyrethrins (chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium extract). Supplied in a 500g powder can.

Super strength cat repellent

Super strength cat repellent £5.49
This super strength cat repellent is made from pure plant extracts contained within clay-based mineral granules. Cats will find the smell of the natural plant extract unpleasant and will drive them away without causing them – or other animals like birds or dogs – any harm. The long lasting odour will provide protection for a period of approx 3-4 weeks depending on the weather. It will also cover the territorial odours of other cats and will make the animals avoid the protected territory. Scatter granules evenly over the areas to be protected and again after heavy rain. 500g is sufficient for an area of approx 200 m2.

Bug and larvae killer

Bug and larvae killer £5.49
This unique formulation controls a wide range of harmful pests including aphids, whitefly, greenfly, spider mites, mealy bugs, scale insects, leaf hoppers and thrips. It also acts on the eggs and larvae of the insects to provide highly effective control of pests while being low risk to bees. This formulation is also effective against biting insects like caterpillars, beetles and sheet wasps larvae. This ready to use spray is suitable for use on a wide variety of ornamental plants, vegetables and fruits. Active ingredient content 0.045 g/l pyrethrins, i.e. 0.18 g/l natural pyrethrum.

Pulmonaria 'Sissinghurst White' (lungwort)

Pulmonaria ‘Sissinghurst White’ (lungwort) £2.99
Position: full or partial shade Soil: humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: March to April Hardiness: fully hardy Bristly, silver spotted, green leaves remain on the plant in all but the harshest winters, creating loose clumps that are topped with pure white, funnel-shaped flowers from early to late spring. A vigorous and easily grown plant, that will help illuminate a shady corner. Garden care: Lift and divide large clumps every three to five years after flowering or in autumn. Cut back plants affected by mildew to the ground, water and feed – the plant will regenerate and produce new leaves later in the year.
