Green manure seeds from Suttons.
Sow a green amnure to fill empty ground over winter.
This discourages normal weed seeds from having a chance to grow and the green manure can be hoed or dug in in spring. Some are not frost hardy and will wilt away and lay on the ground without any effort at all! The worms then pull in the material and this enriches the soil.
