Clematis ‘Princess Charlotte’ (clematis (group 2)) £13.99

A sport of ”, it has a double flowerheads made up of relatively slender, pointed-tipped sepals, each with a green base surrounding a boss of burgundy-red anthers. These are produced in abundance throughout the summer and their colouring is sublime – mixing particularly well with dark purple and plum. relatively compact, it will also grow well in a large patio pot. Garden care: Remove dead and damaged stems before growth begins in early spring, cutting all remaining stems back to where strong buds are visible. Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.

Helenium ‘Ruby Thuesday’ (sneezeweed (syn Ruby Tuesday )) £6.99
Position: full sun Soil: fertile, moist but well-drained soil Rate of growth: slow to average Flowering period: August to September Hardiness: fully hardy Widely spaced deep burgundy ray florets, which are often quilled at their outer edge, gradually turn to coppery-red and become slightly reflexed as they mature towards the end of summer. They surround large blackish-red centres that produce small yellow disc florets. Bushy and compact in habit, they are an ideal choice for pots and containers. Garden care: Heleniums are versatile plants that love plenty of sunshine and moist soil. They rarely suffer from pests or diseases, however young plants do need to be protected from slug attack. Tall varieties need to be staked. To encourage the plant to repeat flower deadhead back to side shoots that have flower buds emerging. Cut back by half after flowering to help prevent mildew. Cut down to the ground in late winter. Every two to three years divide the plants in spring to keep them in top condition. When replanting add loads of well-rotted organic matter to the soil to feed them and keep them moist.
