Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora 'Babylon' (montbretia)

Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora ‘Babylon’ (montbretia) £7.99
Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average to fast-growing Flowering period: August and October Hardiness: frost hardy (needs winter protection in cold areas) On arching, branched stems that rise above the foliage, the large orange-red flowers are freely produced for several months from midsummer. A vigorous perennial, it will quickly spread to form naturalised clumps. Garden care: Resist cutting back the faded foliage until spring, and in the autumn cover the crown of the plant with bracken or bark chips to protect the plant against frost damage. Lift and divide congested colonies in spring, planting the divided sections 8-10cm (3-4in) deep.

Pulmonaria 'Opal = 'Ocupol' (PBR)' (lungwort)

Pulmonaria ‘Opal = ‘Ocupol’ (PBR)’ (lungwort) £7.49
Position: full or partial shade Soil: humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: March to May Flower colour: light blue Other features: white-spotted leaves Hardiness: fully hardy A wonderful, low-growing plant that will help liven up the woodland floor, or add early colour at the front of a shadier border. The long-lasting opalescent flowers are shown off beautifully by the silvered foliage, making it ideal for lighting up shady spots. As this is a compact variety, it will make a super addition to shady patio pots. A semi-evergreen perennial, the silver-spotted foliage will offer some interest throughout the year, but it is in spring, when the dense flower clusters appear, that it is at its prime. They first emerge a soft silvery-blue, from buds delicately flushed with pink, but as they mature the wide flowers fade to white, so it is possible to have both blue and white flowers in the cluster at the same time. Garden care: Lift and divide large clumps every three to five years after flowering or in autumn. Cut back plants affected by mildew to the ground, water and feed – the plant will regenerate and produce new leaves later in the year.
