It also produces small fragrant flowers in racemes in late summer and autumn which attracts butterflies and other insects. One of the more interesting things about this plant is its attractive bark. Native to western Japan and Taiwan the bright green toothed leaves have distinctive sunken veining turning to shades of yellow to yellowish-green in autumn.
