Position: full sun Depth of water: 5 – 150cm Rate of growth: fast Ultimate spread: infinite Height above surface: 30cm Flowering period: June to August Hardiness: tender (needs temperatures above 10C) A decorative floating perennial with rounded leaves that are held on puffball-like stems, and in summer, orchid-like violet flowers form. A fast-growing plant (it can be invasive in warmer climates) that will quickly form a good-sized colony in a pond. It is tender here in the UK and needs temperatures above 10C to survive, but as it can also be grown as an indoor plant, they can be over-wintered inside. Garden care: Outdoors, grow in a sunny pond and keep protected from winter weather. Inside, grow in a large bowl of water or aquarium in a bright spot, ideally with temperatures around 13 – 16C.
