Dahlia Mister Optimist (2 tubers) £3.95
Elegant uniformed pink flowers with cream tips, dahlia Mister Optimist grow to around 120cm in height and flower all summer long. These dahlia tubers form part of our select range for unusual varieties. Dahlias like any well cultivated, garden soil with a good supply of organic material. Sunny sites away from strong winds. Use as a border or bedding plant dahlias make good cut flowers. Short varieties can also be grown in containers on the patio or balcony. Dahlias vary in height, so plant at the front or back of borders or in pots, according to height. Keep the plants well watered during growth. Either lift tubers after flowering and store frost free in dry compost or particularly in warmer areas, cover with a mulch over winter. For early flowering, tubers may be started off in boxes in April; use a light soil mixed with compost. Keep slightly moist, cool and free from frost. When he danger of frosts has passed, plant out the sprouted tubers. If used as a cut flower, cut the stems on when the flower has fully developed.

Canna Tropicanna Tubers (1 root) £3.95
If you’re looking for a plant that looks a little exotic, try these Canna Tropicanna tubers. Included in our ‘Select Range’ these dark orange flowered canna will bloom all summer long. Canna rhizomes like a moist, humus rich soil and to be in full sun. Dig-over the ground and add well-rotted manure if possible. Ideal for flower beds, outdoor containers and as focal points. Cannas are best started indoors in containers of moist compost at a temperature of 20C. Water sparingly until foliage develops and once well grown and rooted, plant out into containers or flower beds. Water regularly. Cannas aren’t frost hardy, so lift, clean and divide before the first frosts. Store in a frost free area until planting time again.

Iris Indian Chief (1 rhizome) £2.95
Iris germanica ‘Indian Chief’ produces wine flowers with delicate red centres. Growing to around 80cm in May and June – this bearded iris is a must for the flower bed. Iris Germanica prefer rich, well-drained soil and to be grown in full sun. Good for borders, iris are a long lived plant. Plant the rhizome leaving the top just about soil level. Water well until established. Lift and divid the roots every 3-4 years. After flowering, cut back stems and keep clean of debris. For best performance, plant in an area that receives as much sunshine as possible.

Nerine Bowdenii (3 bulbs) £2.95
Nerine Bowdenii more commonly known as the Guernsey lily produces beautiful pink flowers around 50cm tall in September – October. Especially attractive when planted in borders and flower beds. Nerines like full sun and a well-drained soil containing plenty of organic material. Best when planted in borders and outdoor containers. Also, a long lasting cut flower. Plant into their final position as Nerines do not appreciate being moved but should they become overcrowded, lift, divide and replant after flowering. When container grown, re-pot every 4 – 5 years. Patience maybe required when growing Nerines as they do not always flower in the first year after planting.

Potato Charlotte (2kg seed potatoes) £4.95
Charlotte seed potatoes have a hint of a chestnut flavour and a firm texture. They are excellent in salads and are a second early variety. Charlotte seed potatoes are great for: Boiling Roasting Salads Planting can take place as soon as the risk of frost has passed in your area, during spring, March-May. Plant 10-13cm (4-5inches) deep in shallow ridges. Seed should be 20-23cm (8-9inches) apart in the row, with 60cm (24inches) between each row. Earth the plants up when they are 20cm (8inches) tall. This encourages a higher yield of potatoes. Watering your plants well will improve crop yield and discourage scab from forming. Harvest July – September Our whole range of seed potatoes are Certified Scottish seed potatoes.
