Hardy Orchid - Cypripedium reginae 1 Bare Root
Hardy Orchid – Cypripedium reginae 1 Bare Root £14.95
Over the last few years the cultivation of the hardy slipper orchid has made great progress and the production of reliable ranges of cypripedium are underway in Europe and North America. Much simpler to grow, not needing experience and specific growing conditions, meaning you don’t have to be an orchid expert to get a beautiful show in your garden from these spectacular plants. The variety we are offering to you is the well known Cypripedium reginae, the Queen Lady’s Slipper. This exquisite variety has some of the largest and showiest blooms of the cypripedium, with pure white petals that hover above the fuchsia flushed ‘slipper’ and is perhaps the most spectacular of the Cypripedium! The root supplied is already six seasons old so will produce strong rich green foliage of up to 50cm (20″) and it is from this foliage that one or more of the beautiful blooms will be borne. The flowering time for this orchid is from mid June. As the plant becomes established in the garden the rhizomes will spread to form spectacular clumps, or if you can’t wait then plant in groups of three or more. Hawaiian Palm 3 Plants - SAVE £9.00!
Hawaiian Palm 3 Plants – SAVE £9.00! £35.85
A very long time ago there was a plant that travelled to Hawaii. It grew on the high volcanic slopes that rise from the sea and in the course of time developed according to the local conditions and grew a long flower. Catching the eye of a local bug, the plant and bug lived happily together with the bug developing so it could easily pollinate the plant. Sadly when people started to settle on this glorious island the bug gradually became extinct and so with no bug to pollinate the plant the situation for the Hawaiian palm became critcial. In fact not so very long ago there were only 7 plants left in the wild. Then two brave scientists risked life and limb to climb up to the last remaining plants growing on the vertical slopes and hand pollinated these last surviving palms. Now they have harvested seeds from the palms and with some of these seeds breeding programs have been set up to help this amazing plant survive. One of these breeding programs produced a beautiful variety suited for indoors. You can own one of these houseplants and know that for each of these plants sold a donation is made to support the conservation of this plant and other endangered species on Hawaii. The trunk of this plant is distinctively marked and bears rosettes of emerald green leaves from which the delicate yellow flowers emerge and gently drape down. This is a most unusual and elegant houseplant with a unique story so don’t miss this fantastic offer. Supplied in 13cm pot. Height up to 1m (3′) depending on size pot. Flowering October-November. Full growing instructions included.
