Stunning tulips from Crocus

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Amazing range of tulips at Crocus! Some really amazing ones available in a wide range of colours.
Such an unusual variety is available – here are a few of our favourites. Suitable for planting where you’ll see them every day as they’re so lovely! Tubs or borders! Plant tulips anytime from October until late December about 4 inches deep and approximately 5 to 6 inches apart. Ensure they aren’t in a really dry spot as they need some moisture. Some people think they should be planted deeper – about 10in deep! Add grit to the bottom of the hole to ensure they don’t sit in water and avoiding using a bulb planter unless you make sure the soil at the bottom isn’t pressed solid.

Neaten up the garden borders with Bark

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

There are several different uses for bark in your garden.
Bark is a fantastic way of finishing off your garden borders. Once you’ve neatened the edges with your half moon along a piece of string as a guide, and weeded the beds thoroughly you should then apply a good mulch of bark.
Bark helps keeps the water in, the weeds down and gives it all a tidy look. You’ll find blackbirds love it too and will pick through it for insects! It’s an eco-friendly way of keeping weeds down too and even if weeds do grow they should be easier to pull up. It’s good for soils that dry out and for borders planted with winter bedding. It’ll give your garden a really professional finish.
Bark can also be used in children’s play areas to cover the ground to make a softer landing for them, and for covering up worn areas under swings or slides. It’s probably best to make a wooden frame around the area and keep the bark in this.

Three types of bark available at RoLawn Direct

Rolawn Decorative Bark (1m³ Bulk Bag - 1,000 litres approx volume when packed)
Rolawn Decorative Bark (1m³ Bulk Bag – 1,000 litres approx volume when packed) £114.40
Rolawn Decorative Bark is a quality, durable, golden brown deluxe ornamental pine bark. Its attractive appearance and shape make it ideal for beds and borders. Rolawn Decorative Bark can also be used as a mulch to inhibit weed development, improve moisture retention and act as insulation for plant roots, reducing plant loss in cold weather.
