Here are some bargains – grow a few lettuce leaves in pots! Sow little and often for a regular supply!
Don’t forget you can cook lettuce as well as eat it raw in salads.

Lettuce ‘Webbs Wonderful’ (Iceberg/Crisphead) – 1 packet (1500 seeds) £1.69
Still the premier garden lettuce in most people’s vegetable patch. Iceberg Lettuce Webbs Wonderful has large, wrinkled leaves with a big tight centre of crisp, white leaf. An outstanding Iceberg Lettuce whether the summer is wet or dry, Webbs Wonderful is always slow to run to seed.
Lettuce ‘Nymans’ (Cos) – 1 packet (350 seeds) £1.79
A British bred medium sized red cos type with a shiny burgundy leaf, Lettuce Nymans retainis its colour halfway into the heart, contrasting with a bright green base. Lettuce Nymans is ideal used as ‘baby leaf’ or as a mature heart, which is slow to bolt and has good mildew resistance.
Lettuce ‘Yugoslavian Red’ (Butterhead) – 1 packet (350 seeds) £1.79
An attractive, large, semi hearting, reddish tinged ‘butterhead’. When cut in half, Lettuce Yugoslavian Red exposes a solid bright greeny yellow centre with a mild flavour. Lettuce Yugoslavian Red makes an eye-catching addition to the kitchen garden, flower border and salad bowl.

A ‘butterhead’ variety with soft round, medium sized hearts for sowing and harvesting throughout the spring and summer. The outer leaves and heart of Lettuce Quattro Stagioni show an attractive bronzed-red colour.
