Terracotta oil pot

Terracotta oil pot £59.99
Available in two sizes, these frost-resistant, hand-thrown pots can be used to house smaller plants, which look pretty spilling over the rim. Even without plants though, they make fine, stand-alone specimens for the patio or border. Dimensions: Small – 60cm height x 28cm width Large – 75cm height x 35cm width We thin k these classic, unfussy designs work best in an English garden. Although the in spiration came from Tuscany, the pots have been made in Turkey. They are hand th rown (sometimes from 2 pieces of clay for the larger pots) by Argon and his son who are the 3rd and 4th generation of potters from the Izmir region on the Aege an coast. The clay from this area ages to a lovely patina, as the salts slowly l each to the surface. Each pot is fired to 1080 degrees C (to make it as frost proof as possible) and has an extra large drainage hole in the base. Available in more than one size. All sizes sold separately.

Mertensia virginica (Virginia cowslip)

Mertensia virginica (Virginia cowslip) £7.99
Position: full sun to partial shade Soil: moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: April to May Hardiness: fully hardy A pretty addition to the woodland edge (or front of border position), this perennial is at its best in a sunny spot that receives softly dappled shade during the hottest part of the day. Plant it in clumps or drifts and enjoy the show that the violet-blue bell-shaped flowers, which open from pink buds, put on in mid- to late spring. Garden care: Lift and divide congested colonies carefully in spring.
