Clusters of honey-scented, greenish-yellow flowers in February and March and lustrous, dark green, laurel-like leaves. This compact, semi- prostrate, evergreen shrub is perfect for shady areas of a shrub border or woodland garden. Less showy than the pink-flowered varieties, it looks wonderful under-planted with a carpet of buttercup-yellow winter aconites. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moderately fertile, well-drained, humus-rich soil Rate of growth: slow-growing Flowering period: February and March Flower colour: greenish-yellow Other features: all parts of the plant including the seed are highly toxic if ingested; contact with the sap may cause skin irritation; the flowers are followed by blackish-purple fruit Hardiness: fully hardy Garden care: Keep pruning to a minimum since the plant is very susceptible to die-back.
