Phyllostachys aurea (fishpole bamboo) £24.99
Tall, upright bamboo with grooved, brown-yellow mature canes and golden-green leaves. This bamboo is highly recommended as it is one of the leas t invasive large species. A great specimen plant, it’s best grown close to buildings or paths where the interesting distortions on the canes can be appreciated close-up. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Leaves: golden-green Canes: grooved, brown-yellow Hardiness: fully hardy Garden care: Plant in a large container or surround the roots with a non-perishable barrier that restricts the plant’s spread.

Garden care: Remove dead and damaged stems before growth begins in early spring, cutting all remaining stems back to where strong buds are visible. Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.
