Heptacodium miconioides (seven son) £84.99
Position: full sun or light dappled shade Soil: moist but well-drained, neutral to acidic soil Rate of growth: average to fast Flowering period: September to November Flower colour: creamy-white Other features: the pinkish-red calyxes can remain on the plant for a couple of months Hardiness: fully hardy Clusters of scented, creamy-white flowers appear at the ends of the branches from late summer, and long after they have fallen, the pinkish-red calyxes often remain colourful, deepening to rich burgundy as they age. When not in flower the deciduous leaves are attractive in their own right. Lustrous green and deeply veined, they hang in elegant pairs along the branches, usually become tinged with claret before they fall. A member of the honeysuckle family, this multi-stemmed shrub or small tree is loved by butterflies and makes a stylish and unusual addition to the garden. Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Requires minimal pruning.

Morus nigra (black mulberry) £89.99
Position: full sun Soil: moist, well-drained soil Rate of growth: slow-growing Flowering period: May to June Flower colour: inconspicuous pale green Other features: large, raspberry-like fruit (August to September) Hardiness: fully hardy A stately tree with heart-shaped leaves and delicious, slightly acidic raspberry-like fruit in late summer. The black mulberry is a long lived tree and is perfect for growing as a specimen as it has a more attractive shape than the white mulberry, with low gnarled branches. This also makes it easier to pick the sweet fruit, though it will take a number of years before it starts to produce its bumper crop. Keep in mind that these plants generally take around 7-10 years to produce fruit and ours are already 3-4 years old. Garden care: Prepare the ground well before planting. Plant in full sun out of cold, drying winds. Stake for the first few years and prune in winter, as the trees ‘bleed’ at other times of the year. Little pruning is needed however, only to remove low, dead, diseased or crossing branches.

Terracotta arc pot £59.99
A low pot with gently angled sides that provides a generous planting area, which is suitable for a wide range of salad crops, seasonal bedding or alpine plants. Hand-thrown in Turkey, this pot has classic good looks and has an excellent resistance to frost damage. We think these classic, unfussy designs work best in an English garden. Although the inspiration came from Tuscany, the pots have been made in Turkey. They are hand thrown (sometimes from 2 pieces of clay for the larger pots) by Argun and his son who are the 3rd and 4th generation of potters from the Izmir region on the Aegean coast. The clay from this area ages to a lovely patina, as the salts slowly leach to the surface. Each pot is fired to 1080 degrees C to make them as frost resistant as possible. However we would always suggest that, just to be extra safe, in the very cold months that you move empty or full pots into a sheltered spot. Our pots are all hand thrown so each pot is slightly different in thickness and shape which gives them their unique character. This pot has an extra large drainage hole the base. Available in various sizes, all sold seperately. Dimensions: Small – width 59cm x height 32cm Large – width 53cm x height 45cm

Indoor pink hyacinths and wicker basket gift set (gift set) £9.99
Gift set includes a lined wicker basket, compost, 6 hyacinth ‘Fondant’ bulbs and growing instructions. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: any well-drained, moderately fertile soil (for container-grown bulbs use two parts John Innes No2 compost to one part sharp grit) Rate of growth: average Flowering period: April and May Flower colour: pink Other features: all parts of the plant may cause a mild stomach upset if ingested; contact with the bulbs may cause skin irritation Hardiness: fully hardy ‘Prepared’ hyacinths have been through a sequence of cold treatments, which triggers the growing process. This means they tend to flower much earlier than ‘unprepared’ hyacinths, and they are mainly grown as indoor plants, where their strongly scented flowers will fill your room with their sweet perfume. Findant has a flowerspike is crowded with flaring, bell-shaped flowers that have a deliciously sweet scent. The petals are a soft shade of appleblossom pink, becoming paler towards the outer edge. Garden care: Using gloves plant bulbs close together (but not touching), into the basket containing bulb fibre, so their tops are just above the surface of the compost. After potting up, they will need a cool, dark period, which will encourage root growth, so pop them into a black bin liner and leave in the shed or garage. Check them occasionally to make sure the compost does not get too dry, and water them when necessary. When the growing shoot is about 5cm tall, take it out of the bag and bring the pot inside to a cool room away from direct sunlight until the leaves turn green. Afterwards they can be moved closer to the window, but if possible keep them away from central heating radiators. After they have finished flowering they can be planted outside in the garden, where they will flower again (in March or April) the following year.
